A Christmas party not long ago required for us to come dressed as Hollywood celebrities. I thought long and hard for who I was going to come as. Then, I remembered I always wanted to make a tulle skirt and remembered the opening credits of SATC with SJP wearing that iconic Carrie Bradshaw Tulle Skirt. So I made my own.
This was one of my very first sewing projects. Very ambitious for a first, I know. But I really wanted to do it.
I didn't have much of a budget for it but I knew I had to get the white tulle which is the essential material for the skirt. I wanted a white skirt as a base but I didn't have 1 that I could play around with for a project that I wasn't sure was going to work. So I took one of my dad's old white shirts and made a pencil skirt from it. I used white elastic for the waist which didn't turn out presentable. Good thing I had a champagne-colored sash that I used as a belt to hide the garter. I wore a pale pink tank top and curled my hair.
And this is the final look.
This skirt is so versatile. My sisters have worn it to different occasions. They paired it with a different sashes, with corset tops. A friend loved it so much she had us make her a soft pink version. But the white color definitely made it so versatile you could pair it with almost anything. And now that I remember... I didn't know how to use a sewing machine that time so a lot of the sewing for this skirt was done by hand. Good thing this skirt continues to outlive the effort I initially put in to it. It was a tough project for a beginner but the long nights were definitely worth it!
