2 DIY Clutches: Crocheted Chevron and Placemat Clutches

Here are a few other projects I worked on. I wanted to make clutches for different weddings I went to.  The first one has a crocheted chevron pattern.  I went crazy over chevron patterns last year.  Unfortunately, my country was a little late catching on with the chevron trend so there weren't any fabric available.  I decided to create the pattern myself.  I researched through several blogs for the simplest and most defined chevron crochet patterns.  I forgot the one I found most useful.  So here are pictures of the clutch I made.

I cheated a little on these clutches.  I always find sewing zippers a little daunting.  And I wanted to make sure all my little treasures inside my clutch were protected from the rainy weather we constantly have.  So I bought a plastic envelope - I went for a sturdier one.  And I crocheted around it and hand-stitched the opening of both the envelope and the crocheted clutch together.  Apart from added protection, the envelope actually added to structure of the clutch.  So whether I had little things inside or I had it full, it still held its shape.

The next clutch I decided to make after a trip to HongKong where I got several pieces of plastic envelopes for HK$ 2 each... very cheap!  I also had been eyeing this placemat at the mall which had an interesting pattern.  I went for a neutral color so it would go with many, many clothes.
I attached a gold button I had lying around and made loops with some black suede cords.  I also detached a decorative tassel from a keychain and added it to the handle of the clutch.  I eventually made changes to the placement of the handle.  I thought it would ruin the zipper easier if I placed the handle there so I decided to stitch the handle to one of the side of the clutch.  I also transferred to tassel to the zipper.  Here's the final look.
