Reversible Wrap Tulip Skirt

I am all for multi-functional clothes.  I figured if I was going to create something, it might as well serve more than 1 use.  That's why I have a fascination for making clothes reversible.

Way before the reversible dress in a previous blog was created, I already conceptualized and created it's older sister - the reversible tulip wrap skirt.

I was watching a Mila Kunis movie one afternoon and I loved the skirt she wore in a scene. It led me to google skirts, pencil skirts then tulip skirts...

They looked pretty doable so right after work, I went straight to the mall.  I bought my ever reliable stretch fabric in 2 colors - black and grey, black elastic and some hooks and eyes.  Worked on it the minute I got home.

My Take on Carrie Bradshaw's White Tulle Skirt

A Christmas party not long ago required for us to come dressed as Hollywood celebrities.  I thought long and hard for who I was going to come as.  Then, I remembered I always wanted to make a tulle skirt and remembered the opening credits of SATC with SJP wearing that iconic Carrie Bradshaw Tulle Skirt.  So I made my own.

This was one of my very first sewing projects.  Very ambitious for a first, I know.  But I really wanted to do it.

I didn't have much of a budget for it but I knew I had to get the white tulle which is the essential material for the skirt.  I wanted a white skirt as a base but I didn't have 1 that I could play around with for a project that I wasn't sure was going to work.  So I took one of my dad's old white shirts and made a pencil skirt from it.  I used white elastic for the waist which didn't turn out presentable.  Good thing I had a champagne-colored sash that I used as a belt to hide the garter.  I wore a pale pink tank top and curled my hair.

And this is the final look.

Shoe Redesign with Sharpie

Black is black.  But I sometimes felt like the black on my black wedges were just blah!  They did nothing for my feet.  I felt like without the 4-inch wedge heel, it could easily be a nun's sandals.

I saw sometime ago on Pinterest(which I have deactivated - cold turkey - because I was getting unhealthily addicted to it) how a Sharpie was used to decorate a mug.  I had plenty of time at work because I had to wait for an hour and half to upload my files.  So I thought about grabbing some Sharpies and using it on these particularly drab wedges.  Here is the outcome.

People Trying To Get Back Up On Their Feet

And the men and women on the street are making an impact on the kids as well. “I learned that they’re not all drunks, alcoholics [and] criminals -- that they’re just people trying to get back up on their feet,” says Luke.

That was a line coming from a 14-year old on what he has learned so far from feeding the homeless people living on the streets of San Diego County for 2 years - every Sunday.  Here's a link to the article

And aren't we all trying to get back up on our feet?  We, all, at some point in our lives, have fallen.  Sometimes even fallen so hard and so low that it sometime seemed we're too far out of reach to be saved.  So why are we still here struggling to survive in this world?  Why haven't we given up?  Because we have hope.  At our every turn, no matter where our turns - right or wrong - have taken us in our life, our Lord's love for us is so great and wide that if we just take the time to look, even if it's just from our peripheral point of view, we see it.  That's if we look sideways.  But even if the shame that we, ourselves, have invited in our lives from wrong decisions and indecisions... even if that shame has given us the worst kind of stiff neck that we can't muster up the confidence to look around for fear that we'd catch people's attention.  And we can only look up and down.  No height is too high and no depth too deep for God's love and His healing and restoring power.

We just need to turn to Him.  Whichever direction is comfortable for us right  now - up or down, left or right.  We are assured that our great and awesome Lord is there - is always there - waiting with His arms wide open.

My Take on Carrie Bradshaw's Halston Dress in SATC 2

When I saw what Carrie Bradshaw was wearing upon landing in Abu Dhabi in SATC 2, I knew I had to make my version of that Halston dress by hook and by God's grace.

2 DIY Clutches: Crocheted Chevron and Placemat Clutches

Here are a few other projects I worked on. I wanted to make clutches for different weddings I went to.  The first one has a crocheted chevron pattern.  I went crazy over chevron patterns last year.  Unfortunately, my country was a little late catching on with the chevron trend so there weren't any fabric available.  I decided to create the pattern myself.  I researched through several blogs for the simplest and most defined chevron crochet patterns.  I forgot the one I found most useful.  So here are pictures of the clutch I made.

Reversible Dress Tutorial

This is the very first time I'm making a tutorial.  I am not a professional at this.  My sisters and I make clothes for ourselves and as gifts to friends.  And because I also have the desire to let people know that looking good doesn't have to break the bank.

I don't know how to shoot one for youtube so I decided to just use drawings and text which I hope it's helpful.

This is tutorial is for this reversible dress that I posted on facebook.
